Welch Summer Student 2019 Anushka Jetly

marellacanny

For 6 weeks, Anushka Jetly, a student from Friendswood High School in Houston, joined the lab as part of the Welch Summer Scholar program. She worked with Lili on the CstF-64 project. This protein is involved in RNA cleavage and polyadenylation and Lili had recent NMR results that suggested that the RNA Recognition Motif (RRM) of this protein might oligomerize upon addition of RNA. Lili and Anushka made some point mutations in the RRM, measured the affinity of the mutants proteins for RNA via Isothermal Calorimetry Titration, and then analyzed the mutant RRMs with and without RNA in the NMR -- a whole lot of work packed into 6 weeks! Anushka presented a fantastic poster on their work at the conclusion of the program.
